A light (disappointing) sprinkle of snow was on the ground this morning. The boys got all excited. I can't remember the last time we had a proper dump of snow round these parts. Not like when I was a lad (by eck) when we lived up in't Dales and we'd get a foot of snow... sometimes 2 foot and upwards.

Just finished reading
Angels and Demons by Dan Brown.

What a fantastic book. It's in 'real time' - approx 24 hours. This story is the prequel to The Da Vinci Code by the same author. Fascinating, gripping and easy to read. As a result of reading I really want to visit Vatican City, and Rome and follow the Illuminati trail. Anyway - if you are looking for a new book to crack open, I'd say - have a taste of this beauty.

Hi there matt - skinner here - thing is mate - if the illuminati have been secret since galileo's days - why would they suddenly jeopordise all that by branding their symbol on a guy's chest??? For real illuminati fun try the Illuminatus Trilogy by Robert Wilson and Robert Shea - totally bonkers but pretty scary............ All the stuff about Hassan i Sabbah - the founder of hashism in the 11th century the source of a wicked quote - "Nothing is true, everything is permitted".........pretty visionary methinks.......

In response to your question "why would they suddenly jeopordise all that by branding.." Well - that's kind of explained in the story! It goes into massive details about the Brotherhood of Illuminati, the premise of the book presumes they have been extinct for 400 years but it states that all historical reference of them is fact. The branding illustrations throughout the book are really well done. The assasin history is detailed and fascinating in Angels and Demons. I'll have a look into the book you mentioned. I've just got stuck into "The Da Vinci Code" now though!

Strange question - does anyone know if there is a link between illuminatus and the number 23 ?

I find Dan Brown's books (I've read Digital Fortress and The Da Vinci Code), whilst covering interesting topics, are written in such a way as to come across as trashy. What are your thoughts on that, and how does this book compare?

I don't think A&D is trashy. It depends how you define trashy though.. Mills and Boon it's certainly not! I think A&D is really well written - loads of quality research, superb plot and delivery.

Howdo,
The Da Vinci Code, and now this book, is in my list to read. It took me ages to find it but there is some referance to these books on the BBC news page somewhere about the search for the grail and a few other links.
