I've said this before after a FIRE party but, how do they keep getting better? what a stunning night it was last night. Absolutly packed out, hit capacity at about 10.30 and stayed there till late. New Fire stars Brett Weatherhead and Tall Kate - Kate did a blinder of a set - some classics in there got everyone dancing and the vibe on the roof, leading up to Brett who played a stunner as well. Top sounds from the muso depararment, only marred by Mr Len Basseys wisdom tooth coming through (hope it's allright today!). I can't wait till the next one on the 28th Feb. I canee wait. photos coming soon

Bit of a nasty bout of "that fluey thing that's been going round" topped off with tonslilitis. Great fun. Made up for lost time this weekend though. There seems to be loads of birthdays this time of year so I'll say a big DragonDrop happy birthday y'all. Random acts of note - got microcosmos on DVD and have painted the kitchen floor red.

Eugh. I feel rough today. Aches and pains. Very sore throat. Tonsillitus on top of this lot is not helping. Soluable solpadine and a big ol' bottle of lucozade is helping though (thanks Eirene x). A bit of work therapy may help take my mind of feeling sorry for myself. I also found out that I was eliagable for a new phone so I've ordered one of these..

A Nokia 6820 with flip out qwerty keyboard. On the road email... that means I'll be able to 'blog from the field' again as I did when I had my Nokia 9210.

Ahh geeking out for a few minutes. It's a real tonic.

Hello
Eirene here. Just had a fabulous night out with Chrissie and Fi ;) First visiting some of the pubs and then coming home playing card and listining to ska while Matt went out for Dino's birthday. Now awaiting the return of Matt and Co after a night at the 'Live Lounge'. Earlier had a lovely day today. Matt took Jaygo to ballet so I could sleep in, then we had breakfast in bed and read 'The De Vinci Code' and chilled till we and the babies all went out to the Mercier Gallery. Very good exhibition on the restoration of paintings and also a whole section onn quilt making which had Felix deciding which and where paintings had been restored and Jaygo designing his own quilt cover. On the way home popped into blues bar which by the way has been entered into bar of the year competition shortlisted with 6 others. Hope they win ;) the judges are viewing on sun so the best of luckxxxxxxx Tomorrow we are having a chilled roast with Fi and Ian and kids so should be fun. Take care and everyone out there have a splendid night
Ciao ;)

Never trust MSN directions!

A friend just sent me this to try..

http://mappoint.msn.com/DirectionsFind.aspx
In the Start section, select "Norway" from the address list box and enter "Haugesund" into the "City" field
In the End section, select "Norway" from the address list box and enter "Trondheim" into the "City" field
Click on "Get Directions"

this is the result!

Noticed this scene out the back window just now whilst making a cuppa tea..

Idle since summer, standing tough and ready for action... Tonka's rule.

A light (disappointing) sprinkle of snow was on the ground this morning. The boys got all excited. I can't remember the last time we had a proper dump of snow round these parts. Not like when I was a lad (by eck) when we lived up in't Dales and we'd get a foot of snow... sometimes 2 foot and upwards.

Just finished reading
Angels and Demons by Dan Brown.

What a fantastic book. It's in 'real time' - approx 24 hours. This story is the prequel to The Da Vinci Code by the same author. Fascinating, gripping and easy to read. As a result of reading I really want to visit Vatican City, and Rome and follow the Illuminati trail. Anyway - if you are looking for a new book to crack open, I'd say - have a taste of this beauty.

The Haggis Horns down at The Late Lounge last night were Awesome. Great set up - brass lead 7 piece, backed up by a great rhythm section. The percussionist had a very desirable rig! Congas, cow bells, timbale, symbols and hitty things.. looked great fun. Heavy weight, super tight, mainly home grown (as far as I could tell) funk central. I heard the rumor that they will be back.

Good night at Doctor Wu's last night with Brett and Neil. Had a keyboard players join us and a female singer stole the show! She was ace.

Looking forward to tonight in a big way. The Haggis Horns at playing at The Late Lounge. They are supposed to be amazing. I've seen them described as heavyweight funk... and I as I've not seen them.. I'll go with that for now!

Thanks to everyone who responded to the "are you in Leeds" request.. Luckily, someone has offered to go into Knock on Wood and pick me up a new skin.

So - if you are in Leeds, I'll be playing at Dr. Wu's tonight with Brett Wetherhead and Neil Jaques (birthday boy!) for the latest installment of community. Sounds like it could be fun - me on't percussion, a brace of DJ's and a keyboard player... perhaps more!

What a week it's been. Last weekend I took part in a superb night - The JFK Experience at the Late Lounge, Bar Med. What a night. DJ Johnnie Fredericks mixed up the vinyl whilst Ben Lacey (sax) Al Smyth (guitar) Me (percussion) and Tom Taylor (Human beat box!) free formed over te top of it. I really hope we can do that again at some point...

Warp ( (our local video store) has now got a world film section. Tried out a couple of titles this week. The first, a Turkish film called "Uzak" was very rich in cinematic brilliance but suffered a rather dull plot line. It was all set in instantly, a city we've been to a couple of times so that was quite interesting however most of the film was about the inside of this photographers flat. It had it's moments though...
The Next film we watched was called "The story of the weeping camel" This was a superb film. Filmed in Mongolia - a wilderness place that is still pure and un fairly touched by man. A simple story / documentary of rural family life. Beautiful scenery and amazing insight into a whole different culture. What a nice people the Mongolians seem to be.. I'd watch it again.

Busy worky week it's been. As is today so I'd better crack on!

Just got this postcard from a friend. She sent it on the 26th of December from Thailand (the bottom left of the card reads Phi Phi Island, bottom right, Krabi). It arrived this morning.

(Thank God) They are now home safely.

Firstly, for those who are interested, mum is doing a lot better at the moment.
Today we went to the Academy Health and Fitness Club. Eirene decided that swimming was the order of the day. Something warm and healthy to do on the last day of the kids holiday. (remember the warm and healthy reference). So after a nice swim, Jacuzzi, steam room and Sauna and such we were having a great time playing games with the boys in the pool. An alarm bell started to ring.. I’ts a fire bell… well we’ll be safe in here… “EVERYONE OUT PLEASE” was the shout form the lifeguard. 30 seconds later, there we were being handed space blankets and told to stand outside! I thought if we loiter we’ll not be asked to really go into the December, windy rainy cold with only a pair of shorts on. So – Eirene and I, clutching our 2 tinfoil wrapped boys stood in mud. Luckily a kind lady said we could put the boys in her car along with all the other kids that had been in the pool. It was probably over 10 minutes Eirene and I had to endure the elements, wearing next to nothing. I’d rather hope that that’s a once in a lifetime experience. Warm now though.. woolly pully.

Project C-90!

Remember when all your music was on tapes? (well - the stuff that wasn't on record). Listening to the UK top 40 on a Sunday pressing record on the old tape deck was a national institution! I can't remember the last time I used a cassette. I used to have a bedroom full of them... well this Russian website has gone about the arduous task of documenting as many of them as they can find. Well done them. Check it out.. Project C-90 ...or not as the 'case' may be.
