Full power 46 hours. Set out at 0930 from Harrogate on a minibus with a collection of stags and the chief stag. 2 crates of beer later we arrived in Edinburgh and met up with the group who flew up form London, after a while the final party joined us in the rather confused bar making the party about 20. The Hampshire and Yorkshire staggerers. North/South boundaries were dissolved (we were all Southerners!). Bar Bar, another bar, some falling over from Baz (oh that's just the start of it for him - I can't go into details on DD but if you know him, ask him about it!), some some drinking some club ended up back at the bar in our digs, played pool, drank and had a laff. Got hoofed out of there at 5 am. Found another bar by about 10am - full of some proper characters. The man with the fictional cigar. Got dragged out of there mid afternoon by the Cumberworths who were giving me a lift back to Yorkshire. Bit of kip in the car, bit more when I got home then out to FIRE!
What a night that was. There was some new PA kit - it sounded tops. Walking round town with an airhorn - what was I thinking? very funny. Some ace music, I loved playing along to it, Johnnie Fredericks and Brett's set were my faves it's got to be said but all the DJ's did an amazing job as did Ben Lacey on't sax. I played pretty much non stop bar a few wanders round - blistered fingers! Wall to wall smiley people, the dance floor was groovin all night had a great vibe going on.
Spent Monday hanging out with Family, ended up goin to Wath to hang out with Brett and Tommy Max (Who's middle name is Kevin). Ate fish and chips, played rounders, frisby and footy in the sun. Nice day!
There will be some more FIRE photos to follow later in the day.. watch this space!

Tip for the day: Never press an airhorn indoors in an enclosed space. I just tried it about 10 minutes ago and everything still sounds like it's in another room. Speaking of airhorns, these kids have invented a new sport with them: Download video here

First blog from my new office! Hmm.. or is it a studio? don't know if I should refer to it as an office or a studio? is that pretentious? I guess studio is more inline with the nature of what I do. I think I’ll invent a new word. Officudio or studioffice? It’s nice here anyway.

My pirate name is:

Passion is a big part of your life, which makes sense for a pirate. Even though you're not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate. Arr!

Secondly, I know that you have all got bored of the forum in recent months, but there's a thread started on the forum about the Thornborough Festival - click here to stick your beak in.

Just got back from a sea fishing trip out at Whitby. What a great time. 5 of us went, caught loads of cod and whiting, some of which we ate last night. I shot this long exposure shot from my bedroom window. Thanks to Chameleon Enterprises for such an ace trip.

A date for your diaries - 4th June 2005
Thornborough Free Festival - The Event: "Thornborough Free Festival will be a one day celebration of modern and ancient culture, it will include music, art, performances, activities and talks in multiple venues around the town of Masham in North Yorkshire. So far more 100 people have signed up to help out with acts and help in order to make this day a spectacular statement of pride in both our ancient heritage and modern culture. The event will cater to a great many tastes, with more than 30 music acts appearing across three venues, town centre street entertainment, art and childrens activities, talks and even an evening cabaret show in the TimeWatch Cafe. Art displays will be a large part of the activities, with childrens painting workshops, street art and indoor multimedia displays."
I can't wait. We (Dalmatian Kebab) are playing 9 - 10pm - just before the top banana's that are Scapegoat Kelly! along with a whole bunch of other Harrogate Tallent - including 3 out of the 4 acts that were in last Thursday's battle of the bands final! It seems that most of Harrogate's musical talent is going on a nice day out to the countryside.
The organisers are still are looking for Music acts, Street Artists, Poets and comedians, Stall holders, Sponsors, People with vans, car park stewards and kids entertainers / face painters etc. (give me a shout and I'll put you in touch o you can contact the organisers direct through the site.
It sounds like it's going to be one of 'THE' events of the summer.

142! that's a record number of visitors - last Friday DragonDrop.org had at least 142 unique visitors (the way it works, an office where people are sharing the same IP would count as 1). I'ts averaging out at around 100 unique visitors per day with about 150 - 250 page views at the moment but a spike of 142 was interesting.. Hmm.. Why is this I ask.. well search strings that have lead people to DragonDrop in the last week or so include:
nuns bleeding guns
dragondrop
toyshelf band
watchcam
tiger bomb harrogate
kid ego york
cocoon bar leeds
masterpeace festival
"music party" harrogate
wookies
bliss in skipton
BRB, Harrogate
bright eyes osymyso
carringtons, bottom of the bottle pics
funk dragon
Krubera Cave
music party 2005 harrogate
What happened to Jennifer Jolly @ KTVU
when did house music originate
But that does not answer the question. Why did YOU come to DragonDrop.org today?

Does anybody else find this funny?

Top day yesterday.. got up, went into town and ate breakfast at the greasy spoon in the train station (where we saw the above sign on the key cutters shop).
Got some new boots (after my other 'off roaders' disintegrated when we were away last week.) got a birthday prezzy for a mate and went to his birthday bash. He's well into his disk golf and we ended up the day with 9 holes. Diskgolf I think is ace - it's the first time I've played it. You have a range of disks (like you would a range of cubs in normal golf) - Drivers, putters, approach disks etc. The basic jist is to get a disc from T to hole in as few throws as possible. The 'hole' looks like this:

So today - think we are just about to go and see some friends, have a look at Las Sangrass playing at the Blues Bar and then perhaps going to see Liam Gray at the conference centre tonight.

Just got in. That was an experience. Getting to be on the judge bench for something like a battle of the bands final was a right privilege. I have to say that the winners didn't get my #1 vote. The 4 bands, Mulholand up first did a great performance, Toyshelf were cool but I felt their material was perhaps a little bland and uninspiring yet very promising with excellent delivery. Kid Ego for me with the boys who if it had been totally up to me and the judging criteria was "who had the best gig / who put on the best show / who were the best entertainers" I would have said without doubt would have been these boys.Full on nutters. They had a megaphone, they had crowd surfers.
Kid Ego. I'm sure I'm not the first to note, they had a bit of that "The Darkness" Nu Cool thing going on about them. They are men what do rock.
SpeakEasy - I think were great but lacked the rounded maturity that a band of their genre (sort of chili peppers) needs. I'd keep an eye out for them - if they are still at it in a couple of years they will kick ass.

Been working for HIC this week in the new Queens Suite. Sitting here now, looking out at the sun, hearing things like “oh Harrogate could be one of the hottest places in the country today”. Tonight, going to the official launch party of Plush magazine at Revolution Harrogate then off to the grand final of Stray FM’s "Knock Out Rock Out" battle of the bands at Bar Med. I’m supposed to be a judge. Should be fun. 4 bands, one of which I’ve seen before (Mullholland) along side 2 bands I’ve never heard of – SpeakEasy and Kid Ego – and York based band “Toyshelf” who I have heard of and have a top reputation. Apparently at the music party, they had to be dragged off stage because the crowd wouldn’t let them stop!
Heard a fascinating story about rock of a different kind earlier today. A colleague who was telling me about a really strange, unexplained natural phenomena he’s seen in Death Valley California. Moving Rocks. It seems that across the 10,000 year old dried clay lake bed rocks decided to go on a little adventure of their own and leave tracks in their wake.
“The best theory put forwarded so far is that the rocks are moved by strong gusty winds during winter time - on days when a layer of ice gets formed on the surface which supplies the necessary lubrication.” more pics here and here and here

Friday Came out of a proper chilled week in the the middle of nowhere that was Baysdale Abbey
into The sprawling metropolis that is Leeds city centre for a gig at Cocoon in Millenium Square. Fun gig.
Saturday - set up at The Late Lounge for The JFK Experience. Unfortunately Johnnie Fredericks, JFK's DJ couldn't make it but we made the most of it! Blake and guest from Pete (Scapegoat Kelly) on bass, Cloudbass on guitar, me on't percussion, jimmy jones on trumpet, Ben on sax some records, some drum loops.. quite a unique sound!
Sunday - caught up on a bit of work, went to a meeting about a free festival that's kicking off in Masham on June 4th (more on that later) and went to watch a superb film at the Odeon Harrogate - The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy.
Very close to the radio play version - really entertaining. Great casting, some new ideas and some of the book ideas superbly done.
It's one of those years that seems to be lined up with a whole load of quality looking films. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ,the new Spielberg film War of the Worlds , Madagascar and (of course) The concluding part to the pre trilogy trilogy Star Wars Episode III, Revenge of the Sith. I am very excited.

Straight after fire, we set off on holiday to an abbey set in the South Cleavland hills about 20 miles from Whitby which is where we are now on a day out (warming up in a pub with a brandy coffee). Our home for the week - Baysale Abbey: Massive place, 13 of us, having a top time eating, drinking and chilling. Nothing but rolling hills and sheep for miles around us!

Beltane fire festivals - the net's full of it! Also known as May Eve, May Day, and Walpurgis Night.May 1st.It celebrates the height of Spring and the flowering of life. The person who wrote the Internet goes on to say "On May Eve, bless your garden in the old way by making love with your lover in it. Make a wish as you jump a bonfire or candle flame for good luck. Welcome in the May at dawn with singing and dancing." Can't argue with that!
