Can't believe it - Bar Med Harrogate has closed. Something to do with a change of hands and a problem with the lease. I'm gutted. I've had some ace times there. I've loved doing all the design / photography / promo / web for the place over the last 2 years I think it's totally silly that the administrators have shut it down because it's profitable, it's got some ace brands and on top of it being a great business, it was a great place. Hmm.. Anyway. Onwards and upwards.

Google maps is cool. Advert free, zoomable global to street level maps. It's got the good bits from streetmap, multimap (Although the satellite view is loads better on multimap) and theaa route finder and rolled it into a new slick and easy to use site. Online maps - advantage - sophisticated levels of data, disadvantage - you can't roll it up and take it to the car with you (unless you print the bits out that you need of course. A REALLY useful mapping feature is the traffic monitor functionality on getmethere.co.uk. It's saved me getting snarled up in traffic a few times. Anyway. Maps rock.

Sat back stage at the Royal Hall Harrogate. This place shuts down soon for some major (and needed) structural surgery. About £6m has been chucked into the repair coffers. I'm glad that the cash was found. The Royal Hall has got to be one of Harrogates finest assets. This gig (CIH 2005) could be her last major gig for the next couple of years.

I've just watched Harrogate Brio's (the town one, not Hornbeam) restaurant burn down. Working at the Harrogate International today (doing tekky stuff), glanced out and the whole area was covered with really thick white smoke. I got outside and I could hear what sounded like a fireworks display - loads of cracking and banging. I followed that and the first thing I saw was huge flames coming out the roof and hundreds of tiles exploding. The flames got bigger and swept across the roof, 5 minutes later the fire brigade turned up and started tooling up. They initially pumped loads of water on adjacent buildings. Paul Q (yes the an ex FIRE resident DJ!) turned up with a digital camera and we took loads of shots

After a while we watched what was left of the roof cave in and the fire rip through the first floor. It took the brigade quite a while to tackle the blaze but eventually the reduced it to smoke. Everywhere now stinks of smoke (I'm currently in Queens Suite) Just come from the the main auditorium at HIC which is still filled with smoke as the air con in take must have been in direct line of the smoke.
So quite an eventful fathers day! I got a keyring torch off the boys. Felix made me breakfast in bed which consisted of cornflakes and strawberry blamanche. Nice!

Nice.. Just got back into town after driving to Sedbergh and back this evening to drop a load of people off up there. Noticed about 5 miles out of said town that the door wasn't shut properly (minibus) so I got out. I noticed that I was stood in an absolutely idyllic spot. Next to a bridge going over a very impressive river, stood on the bridge for a wile, admiring the scene and enjoying the peace. Mused on thoughts of camping perfection over the field next to the river I could see... Walked round the side of the van with the offending door and found £20 on the floor! a crisp new twenny quid note in the middle of nowhere! On the drive up I'd noticed a cracking looking boozer, (Timothy Taylors and Theakston cask) so, starving hungry I relocated it. The White Swan was it's name, 1510 it was built, Aberdeen Angus steak and a pint of TT's gold had I. Happy Matt.

A very busy week I've had so far. I've got to be boring this weekend as I've got a 7 day straight job on at the conference center starting tomorrow. Shame, would have liked to have a look at Engage at the Little Wonder (Psy Trance DJ's). Today I've got a Multiple deadline pile-up followed by a drive up to someplace near Newcastle. I think it will be a heatwave next week (because I'll be stuck in a darkened backstage type environment all week) Anyway. Went to Kasbar last night at Bar Med. They have the new beers in. Draft Stella and Guinness downstairs. Get on. Tried Kronenberg Blanc. Ahhh... whitbier! Reminds me of times living in Amsterdam, hot sunny day, tall glass with mashed lemon and witbier.. v.nice. Anyway... far too early to be thinking of beer!

Free Van After clover (our big van) failed her MOT on Friday, I've decided to get rid of the congamobile. If anyone is interested, drop me a mail. There are a few bits that need doing - nothing to bad as far as I know, if not she's off to the scrappers :(

Went into Leeds after work on Friday to play at cocoon. Not a bad gig, The first DJ (some guy off the radio I believe) in my humble opinion was not quite right for the venue, The place was a lot quieter after he had played. Some good tunes though, but I'd heard them all to death. Lots of 80's, lots of chart disco. Not really my ting! The guy who came on after him was superb though - we got on well - A chap called Paul Meyers form Liverpool. Funk, Jazz, breaks and some of the most unusual (in a good way) remixes I've heard in a long time - A Japanese electo version of a Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana was his opening gambit, into some really cool jazzed out stuff.
Saturday, got up and we all decorated my new office. Good fun, had the boys I the middle of it all watching Johnny English on DVD (not bad.. they liked it) It's now walnut (although the colour looks nowt like it does on the walls)
Sunday - went and played a gig at the Blues Bar with the 'Sharon Sex Tet' A 6 piece straight jazz band - good muso's. I felt rather young! Technically brill, very sharp, I found it a bit hard jamming along but it sounded alright and seemed to go down well. Bumped into an old friend of mine who is now living in Spain then went to a birthday party and had top thai nosh. Kids were going bananas as they had been partying all day (they went to another party before that one!) Chilled out on return to DragonDrop and watched big brother. It's getting interesting now. Making them compete to see who can stay in a cardboard box for the longest was very funny.
Now it's Monday, still ploughing through mail really, just got this picture of a computer mod (thanks to who? For sending this in) I want one.

From stressed to strange - The company that is downstairs from me do voice over type stuff for video games, I've just been recorded doing a load of "I'm being injured" noises; screams, grunts and general loud shouty stuff in a there vox dead room. I feel a lot better now.

Arrgh! Stressful day! Clover has failed her MOT abysmally, naughty girl. My task list is the same length as it was this morning and IÂ?ve only got a couple hours left in the dayÂ?
WhoaÂ? think tranquilloÂ?. Deep breaths. Counting to tenÂ?
Went to the launch of a new night at BMH last night - Kasbar It was ace! An "Indie Lounge", good vibe, good choons and cheap beer! Top thing to do on a Thursday.
Gigging in Leeds tonight at the Cocoon Bar with Radio Aire - something to do with a party to celebrate a year of the breakfast show or something (?). I've no idea what's going on but on the edetaildeail page on their website they have this picture...
A conga playing wabbit.(Is that supposed to be me?)
Tomorrow I really want to see Fingerobics at Bar Med's Late Lounge. Just been listin to some demo's on their website -http://www.fingerobics.co.uk/ good sounds. Jazz and yay funk tastic.
Speaking of Jazz, I'm playing in the Sharon Colgan band at the Blues Bar this Sunday. Should be fun - nice afternoon giggage. 2pm.
Reet - back to stressville.

I've had a very frustrating morning thanks to BT royally messing up my phone transfer. Lost half a days calls (and potential business) thanks to them. Ahh well. No worries red curries.

Been up to all sorts this weekend. Friday night I played at Community at Bar Med. Great night . There was me on't percussion, Nick on Keys, Tim on guitar jamming along to 3 dj's : Graham Douglas, Mark Holland and John Hebden. Funky house mainly, some really fresh stuff in there. Good mix of people, good vibe, two thumbs fresh. Up for some more of that! Saturday,Thonrborough Festival in Masham. This was ace. We got there about mid day, Eirene was doing some face painting, in the kids area
I went for a wander to check out some music. The best stage by far was at the back of the Bruce pub - outdoor rig supplied by Allan Smyth Audio Visual (little plug there, but well deserved, the sound was top quality - really well engineered by Mr Sanders! - the new void rig rocks!) Saw Peace Through Superior Fire Power
who I've not seen for years (last time was at rason deter many moons ago) great harmonies, rocky kinda stuff. The bass player was sporting a fantastic T-Shirt ;) Pottered around, saved my first pint of the day till about 4pm (well done me pacing myself!) Theakstons XB - top juice. Went and had a look at The Smokestacks
(or 'we smoke stacks' as someone thought they were called) really enjoyable stuff . One of the ways I gauge music is "would I have it on my walkman or in the car" - a resounding yes. Funky kind of stuff, great lead vox, really interesting sounds, well written stuff. Also saw Tigerbomb on that stage.
Top stuff. Not sure about Dan's chick shades! Shortly after that we went into the town hall - 'the big venue' - to watch Mullholland. Full on rock music, guys giving it all they got up on stage, a spectacle of raw tallent... and cakes. At the back. A unique merch stand if ever I saw one!
Went and set up camp in the campsite that Matt B sorted out 5 mins walk from town, right on the river. Had Scottish Al with us. Tree surgeons are worth their weight in gold when it comes to setting up camp. Before long he'd sourced a dead tree and had hacked it up for firewood. There were about 6 vans and 20 tents - a good number of happy campers! Our (Dalmatian Kebab) gig was at 9pm. The town hall was a strange venue, the sound (supplied by Ripon City Music) was in my humble opinion way off the mark [Edit instert - on reflection, I wouldn't say it was 'way off the mark', more, 'not as good as it could have been' - it was afterall provided gratis by RCM, so some PA is better than none] -. A small PA with just one monitor on stage. Just 2 small bass cabs and 2 tops. As a result, I couldn't hear myself play. (I know a good workman shouldn't blame his tools but..) as a result I had a rubbish gig. Other people said it was OK but I didn't enjoy as I was straining to hear myself and all I could hear was a 1/3 second delay of some of my sound off the back wall. After the gig, managed to catch a little bit of Scapegoat Kelly
Harrogate masters of funk didn't disappoint. (again) I didn't get to see their full set due to escorting the kids back to the camp site. A very late night for them - straight off to sleep (in clover) and we had a drum and a laff round the old camp fire. The weekend was to raise awareness of the henges at Thornborough. A result I would say.
Came back yesterday and spent 2 hours making a curry. Nice round off to the weekend!

Collected clover last night from storage. That's it, the summer has proper landed. It felt good chugging about in her. Gave her a good old spring clean ready for action. First away mission in said vehicle planned for tomorrow at Thornboroughstock tomorrow in Masham. It should be cool. Weather is looking like it should be OK. If you are off to Masham, we (Dalmatian Kebab) are on at 9pm in the Town Hall. We are followed by Scapegoat Kelly (huraah!) and Paul Middleton.
