That's something you don't get every day... I'm freelancing today for amaze near Runcorn. A table top or rather desk top magician is doing the rounds. An interesting interlude. When Eirene used to work for Hewlett Packard, they had shoulder masseuses / masseur come round. Hows about an office FIRE?... perhaps not. What else though?

So yea - here are the FIRE photos - not as many / as high quality as I'd have liked due to a technical hitch with the camera... and most of the fish eye ones of FIRE didn't come out that well.. but non the less some cool views of the best party in town...

Superb weekend.. As I suspected it was non stop.
Did a lap of Manchester on Friday, (wedding in NE, reception in SW, hotel in SE) stayed up way past my bed time after that drinking the world to rights with Eirene's cousins. Saturday, found a superb park in Manchester called Birchfields. Hung out there, got a picnic from Turkish Supermarket - reminded us of the shops around us when we lived in "little Turkey" in Amsterdam.
Drove home, had a night in with simes who'd come up from London village to see us. Watched "It's All Gone Pete Tong" - I thought this was going to be silly/cheesy/laddish, Kevin and Perry style humor but no - it was a superb film, clever plot really well acted. Followed by "Maria Full Of Grace" a Columbian drama about drug smuggling. Slightly disturbing, heavy going but very good.
Sunday, Eirene had designed a day full of my favorite things - started out with breakfast in bed, prezzys and such then we went to have a go on a chocolate fondou. Ver ver nice. Strawberries in melted choc choc for mid morning snacks. After that, Bradford, for my Birthday Lunch. Curry. My fave. After that we all went to IMAX to see Aliens of the Deep 3D. Blimey, this was amazing. one of my favorite things to do on a Sunday afternoon is to lounge about and watch nature programs. This was the ultimate nature program. 3d and on the biggest screen in the world. Bosh.
After that, drove back and set up FIRE. What a night :) we've got it spot on in 'gate now. decor looks fantastic, it sounds spot on an the atmosphere is electric (imho). Can't wait till next month for FIRE's second birthday and Halloween extravaganza (and fancy dress - check out last years!)

What a day! Glorious weather. Started out going to Knaresborough for a meeting then went and had a look around Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre. First time I've been in. Great space. After that I went to meet the couple who head up the Royal Hall Restoration project. Inspiring stuff. When that place opens again in 2007 it's going to be a superb asset for Harrogate, and to think we were so close to loosing it for ever. A unique design, well ahead of it's time. Fascinating. Hmm got stacks to do, and we're off to Manchester tomorrow for a wedding. Out on Saturday night cos my old mucka Simon is up for the night from that there London village and it's my birthday and FIRE on Sunday. Full steam ahead. Next stop Monday.

What a result! England won the Ashes. What are we going to do now? For the last 2 months I've had the companionship of a cracking game of cricket. Now what. Ahh well, got some free Champagne down the blues at close of play yesterday.

The shiny new FIRE posters came back from the printers. They look a bit like this:
25th September is my actual birthday. What a place to have it! Been out camping this weekend for perhaps the last time this summer. Went to Spiers House again (we went there last year around this time).

I can hardly believe that my little Jaygo is going to school.First day. I had a small lump in my throat and Pink Floyds "Welcome To The Machine" going round my head. Felix is very proud of the looking after his little brother at school task.

Tickets are going for up to £2,500 on eBay and grounds could have sold out four times over. The Oval. Where it all began. The first-ever Test on English soil was played here in September 1880, resulting in an England win over Australia by five wickets. The Ashes. Mad for it.

Jaygo starts big school tomorrow. To mark the very last day of the summer holidays, Eirene decided to take the boys up to play by the river at Linton falls up in't dales. I decided to go as well and work late instead. Did the jump again for a laff, caught a load of cray fish which we cooked up and had for tea before driving home. Ver ver nice. Better than lobster. Well, better crack on with some work.

We went to a wedding on Friday. Loads of people that I've not seen for ages. The had a professional fire act. This was quite interesting to watch, - a structured 'show'. He had double fire staff on the go, a fire sword (this looked cool) and fire clubs. The clubs were very cool to watch.
On Saturday we were on full chill mode. Top stuff. I finished reading an epic book that I've been on for most of the summer 'Birds Without Wings' by Louis de Berniéres (the same chap that wrote 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin')
Fantastic read. It's 625 pages of small print unravel a story set in Turkey at the end of the Ottoman empire. A lot of it is set in a part of Turkey that we spent a fair bit of time in while traveling - BC (Before Kids). Loius is a master of the English language and his writing style reeks of quality (unlike mine..reeks?)
After that we took the kids for a surprise trip to the Cinema. Told them that we were going out for a walk and had to go via my office to get something (near the Cinema). We went to see Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. Superb film.
We'd just finished reading the boys the book and the translation from Dahl's original story was ace.
