I am sick of spam. I've got loads of active email addresses and typically, I get about 500 emails over a weekend that VAST majority of which are spam. I'm loathed to spend time and money reducing it but thats what I'm going to have to do sooner or later. PAH!

Rant over. Had a great weekend. Saturday daytime we all went to a friends birthday party. Kids, pizza, cake and beer.

Yesterday I played my first game of disc golf disc golf this year. Personal best round of 35 (9 hole), putting on form, driving needs some work. Took Felix- he's got a good eye! Went to jam night at the Iron Duke last night, that was fun, ended up in Moko Lounge which was also fun.

Spam? I get loads too.... 2 ways around it man - remove your catch all or use Mozilla's Thunderbird Free download, it has a powerful spam filter :D

spam? hehehe... i get very little - maybe an average of 5 (yes, five) spam messages per week.

i run catch-all addresses on several domains, and i also have email addresses that are publically posted and not obfuscated.

we found that removing catch-all on any given domain doesn't necessarily produce significant reductions on spam for that domain -- depending on the amount of publically exposed mail addresses for a given domain.

i used to get a lot of spam, but i don't anymore. i run apache's spamassassin on my mail server - it's free open source software, and works very very well. (fwiw, our server runs linux - but i believe spamassassin can run on windows too)

i also use the additional 'rules du jour' rulesets, which are auto-updated daily.

spamassassin can also use bayesian filtering (like mozilla's thunderbird), but we have not enabled/configured this option so far.

my server actually turns away (refuses to accept) any messages that are scored as too spammy - we don't accept the mail and then trash it - we deny it.

fwiw, mail for all domains hosted on my server is subject to spamassassin filtering, and all my clients are happy with this solution too.

spamassassin can be integrated with most smtp mail servers. it works very well, and so far, i've had no reports of any false positives.

there are other server-side solutions beside spamassassin (and i believe some of them are comparable in their success/fail rates) but i've not tried them, so ymmv. also, i'm sure there are commercial spam filters available, but again i've not looked at these as my server only runs free / open source software.

if you are unable to run a server-side solution for whatever reason, then for a good solution on the desktop, run either mozilla firebird (as mc.p rightly says) or ximian evolution (sorry - linux only!). thunderbird uses its own spam filter, and it's very good (leagues ahead of microsoft outlook) and evolution uses spamassassin (unsurprisingly).

a decent isp/hosting company will surely provide a good working server-side spam filtering solution at no extra cost - we do, on all packages.

good luck! (it sounds like you need it if you're getting that much spam, heh)

/Jim
