Just finished reading 'Around the world in 80 days' by Jules Verne. A classic book. I thought I remembered the plot from a film version but didn't the film have hot air balloons in it? (the book does not). It's been a fascinating read of a technically plausible adventure. A world of no aeroplanes, Trans ocean steamers, colonial far east and a brilliant, rich eccentric Englishman and company. Jules's style is although dated is a joy to read. Perhaps a sign of the times but Verne used long hand textbook perfect Queens English throughout.. Today's common style in comparison strives for shorter was to describe things. Word economy. Summary: Top adventure. Wish I could have given him a DragonDrop adventure shirt. I read it on my new ish phone/PDA which I've not mentioned on DD yet. : ( Top phone. I can blog from it! I am writing this on it.) I got the book for free. I discovered Microsoft Reader software and it's and others huge libraries of free (and pay for) titles. Question is what to read next... ?

Remember the coolness of the Honda Cogs advert when it first came out? well in my humble opinion they have done it again with "This is what a Honda sounds like" check it out here >> an interesting press release on the making of the ad can be found here>>
I shouldn't really be plugging Honda today as I'm over in Cheshire working on some stuff for the Toyota Aygo. Ahh well!

Finished reading Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami (translated into English form Japanese) this morning.
Like "Norwegian Wood" - one of the things I liked about Kafka on the Shore was the character development. Kafka on the Shore is an incredible story, perhaps the sort of plot that if you saw it in a film you would have an "as if!" cynicism but as a book, I think it works. Ghosts, talking cats, and limbo worlds are all here, even raining fish and leeches. If you're after something different to read, give it a go.

Really nice little spot we are at. Loads of duck, swan, terns and moor hens ::amendment:: After further study, I'd say they probably weren't moor hens that I saw, rather coots. Or, like the plural of a goose is geese, is the plural of a coot, a ceet? And I'm not sure of the turns had tuned up because they should be away on holiday his time of year I think.
After going for a (really nice) walk round the place we decided that it's a superb little hidden gem of a place. Fairburn Ings is RSPB, several lakes, ponds and waterways hide hides and info, there's an activity centre for the wee uns and loads of good info. We invented a new pass time - twitcher twitching. Try standing next to a tree with, looking up with a pair of bino's. Before long you are joined by several bino wielding bird fans. See how many you can collect before moving on.

I think it's funny. And the cats don't seem to mind that much. Maybe they are stunt cats.

We had an absolutely fantastic time. Squeezed in so much. Hilight would be going to the top of Mount Teidi 12,000+ feet so I'm informed. (in a cable car!) . Seeing Pilot whales. Kicking back in the Caribbean climate when it's freezing back in blighty. Hooking up with my cousin and his wife who were also out there. Spending New Years Day in a pair of shorts. Eating loads, reading loads. Black sand beaches. The strange thing about it all was Christmas decorations alongside palm trees and heat.

Still in the mighty fine Tenerife. It´s 16:30 ish on Wednesday. Went to the top of Mount Teide today. 11,000+ feet alt. What a view. Very thin air, cold and snow! spectacular. Been bezzing about in our little hire car, chilling out on black volcanic beaches, swiming, snorkeling eating loads and reading loads.
The book I finished last night called Vernon God Little by DBC Pierre (read the first chapter here) was spectacular. Absolutly riviting. Winer of the 2003 Mann book brize, this book winds a tale through Texan American culture, attutude, place and eating habits. Very funny, superb plot and characters. A MUST read.
I´ve now started reading The Great Gatsby! Anyway, I´m off to fix myself a drink and wait for the sundown (about 18:30 ish).
