door, originally uploaded by DragonDrop.

So today I've been all over the place. Started out in East Leeds to meet a client. We the went to a building site for care homes near Keighley. I was taking photos for a how to / how not to manual. I got to wear a hard hat. Don't doors look strange when you look at them like this?

Then we went back to East Leeds. I then went to Headingly the back to Harrogate. What an odd blog. I think I'll leave it even though it is dull. Sorry about that.

ice cream, originally uploaded by DragonDrop.

Got my film back today - containing the first attempt / roll of film from my 'new' camera (a 30 year old Lomo smena 8m) For this shot I used expired tranny / slide film and had it cross processed. Very strange results - these are un altered.

Other stuff to report - I'm the voice of a new ride at Flamingo Land. If you are ever there, go on the Circulator, and the bloke that says "Keep your hands in.. etc etc." is me!

Eirene did some voice recording for the log flume ride as well. How very strange. I'll see if I can get some snippets to post on DragonDrop.

Played a gig on Saturday for a wedding party in the heaving Foresters Arms in Grassington. Such a nice night. Top company - loads of old friends - have not been together en mass for ages, top music, top beer top time.
More photos later including some superb horse faces. Deadlines to meet first..

Something arrived that I've been waiting a rather long time for today:
It was like Christmas. Arrived in't post when I got in was a new bit for my camera, Pilot Wings 64 for the N64 and this Lomo Smena-8m

smena 8m, originally uploaded by DragonDrop.

I ordered this about a month ago and it arrived (from Russia) today. I got a load of 'dead stock' positive film (expired 1996 from Ebay) and I'm off to try out cross processing and I'm looking forward to creating some crazy shots..

I've just met BBC's football commentator Alan Green. He's doing some voice recording in a studio down the corridor from my office. Nice chap.

Wooden Cowboys, originally uploaded by DragonDrop.

I'm sat in 'Poplar 2000. Your Favorite Stopping Place' truck stop café, Lymm services, M6/M56 in the gool ol' U of K. Just had a full english breakfast and a mug of tea for £4.20. Outside these very nearly life size wooden cowboys guard the entrance. This is bandit country. Its good sitting in this café, watching the reaction to the cowboys in the courtyard of people who see them for the first time.

A busy few days. Went to near Otley this morning, saw a Red Kite. A magnificent bird of prey that it is. The breeding programme introduced at Harewood seems to be doing really well.
Off to Runcorn in the morning to do some design stuff. Just been out to the Tap and Spile for a pint with an old mate of mine who now lives in London. Fullers London Pride was on. Dave convinced me, against my better judgement to give it a go. His local does it and he claimed it was a good drink. I should have stood by my first thought that they really don't know how to make ale down south. If that's what they are proud of then I dread to think what the run of the mill stuff is like. After that I sugested a good old Yorkshire beer - Hambletons. The difference was public transport verses Aston Martin, Premiership verses Sunday League. Yorkshire 1, Down South, 0.

Just finished watching Carnages written and directed by Delphine Gleize. Loved it. After a dramatic bull fight, various bulls parts are distributed throughout Europe - a bone for a dog, the horns to a taxidermist, the eyes to a scientist, all for various reasons. Some of the most extreme and complex relationships I've seen in a film which lead to some gob smacking scenes. There were times when I thought "where is the plot" but it wraps up nicely in the end. I'd say Film Noir (I've just looked up the history of said phrase and it's quite apt), The cinematography is VERY well done. Worth a watch if you don't mind subtitles or are Euro Linguistico.

Whilst out on site doing a dull conference as I was this week, you get a lot of down time. B3ta.com (smashing website that it is) newsletter 219 drew my attention to this website : blowersworld.com. All you need is a camera with flash and the ability to do horse impressions. The results are a right larf, I was having another go last night:

I strongly advise that you give it a go.

So after a trip to Dixons to take back the wireless router that didn't work and a trip to PC world to get one that did and a bit of time messing about, I've WiFi'd DragonDrop. I'm sitting in bed, with me new laptop. Happy as Larry.

Dull tech blog coming up.. First blog in ages from home. DragonDrop centraal. I've not had a computer at home since June ish last year. Not really missed one. But I've just got a new laptop today and a broadband deal. Did get a wireless router kit but after an hour and a half going through several tech supporters, I was told I've got the wrong one. Ahh well at least good old ethernet still works. Shame I've only got a 3m length of CAT5 cable - I'm sat on Felix's camping chair as it's the only chair close enough to the set top box / modem. So I'm off to Dixons tomorrow to see if they will swap out the wireless router kit for me. Ho Hum. What a way to spend Paddys Day night! Think I'll go and get some of the black stuff.

My Name Is Asher Lev, originally uploaded by DragonDrop.

JUST finished reading 'My Name Is Asher Lev' by Chem Potok. A stunning piece of work. The story follows the life of a Ladover Hasid Jew from Brooklyn who observes his religion, it’s Kosher food, and it’s deep rooted traditions. In his early childhood his artistic gift comes to life. The book shows a battle between his art and his faith. A fascinating story which yields an intimate insight into the life of a devout Jew and the beyond the norm struggles of a brilliant artist. Well worth a read.

London was ace played at 'NoForms'. Got down there Saturday evening in good time, big club, huge 60k PA that sounded amazing. Set up whilst eating a delivered chow mein from a chinese which was delivered for perfs and crew. One beef chow mein was left over. Doors opened at 22:30, did a warmer set with the first DJ at about 11:15 then did about half hour on half hour off as the club filled up and drank £4 a can (!) Grolsch inbetween. Superb DJ's, superb night (apart from the grog prices). That club shut at 03:30. The beef chow mein was in exactly the same place. Beyond was on at the Colloseium straight after us (starts 04:30) So we had to break down my rig super quick. After we went to the official after party at hidden where some of the DJ's from the gig I'd just done were playing. Often city after parties are in run down seedy joints but this place was very cool indeed - fairly new by the look of it. Hung out there till about 09:00, got home for 14:00 just in time for a good ol Sunday roast. Full power 22 hour no shower.

So I woke up this morning and decided to get healthy. Since giving up smoking (yes I know I have the odd cig when I'm having a drink but nada for the rest of the time. I've quit since last August) I've been putting on the timber due to eating loads, due to having taste buds back, due to having nothing else to do with my down time (used to nip off for a smoke for my idea of a break, now I'll have a snack) and due to the fact that Eirene is pregnant and eating for 2 so I tend to join her and eat for 2 as well. I'm out of shape.

So - what's my solution? I'm off running that's what. What a high tech process buying a set of running shoes was! cool stuff - went to see my old mate Martin who works at Up & Running in Harrogate. They've got this treadmill and camera set up that you run on for a bit and it analyses your style and the way your foot lands and so on. They have this hypercolour footprint imager thing that tells you what type of foot / arch you have. After a while of working out what I wanted etc. he came up with a pair of shoes that feel great and are perfect for me. It was one of them things where real shops are way better than internet - the value add I got from going in was unsurpassed. I also got a training program and loads of info on the world of running.

So I'm writing the blog as a note to myself really - hopefully I'll keep the idea lodged in my head and keep at it. It's supposed to be very enjoyable once you get into it. I used to go out running with my dad when he was training for marathons. Cor blimey. Maybe one day.

FIRE on Sunday - what a top night. Cloudbass (who played guitar not records this time) claimed it was his fave ever at Native State!
Hats off to Silent Bob who when he took his hat off revealed this:

A genuine FIREhead.

Went to the opening night of the 2006 Harrogate Beer Festival last night. Ended up playing a guest spot with Scapegoat Kelly which was fun. The competition from the other end of the room was overwhelming (dozens of guest beers!) It's at the Rugby Club down Claro Road, proceeds to charity, well worth a go!

Don't forget - it's FIRE this Sunday

victoria, originally uploaded by DragonDrop.

Amazing blue sky morning this morning. Took this shot of the Victoria Shopping Centre that I quite like.

Last night we went to Harrogate Theatre to see the Allan Bennet talking heads show that's on there at the moment. Very good. 3 x (approx) 40 minute molologues. Funny and quite dark (in a light Yorkshire kind of way) Well worth a watch though - very entertaining.
