The war between google and yahoo has allways been interesting to watch from the touchline. For the consumer, it's good because both still know that they have got to provide a predominantly free service yet entice users to their brand by bringing out better stuff. As far as search goes, I'd say google is the best, and what with recent incredible forays into things like mapping (google earth is a must see if you've not done so yet) as well as blogger and voip stuff they've been into recently, google were looking pretty cool.
Yahoo however have a very big gun - flickr. This has shot out of no where in the last year or so to be one of the biggest things on the net. Yesterday they launched flickr mapping - where you can tag your photos with geo data - effectively you can take a big map of the world and stick pins into place you have taken photos. I feel the resolution could be better (it's just not google earth yet) but non the less, it's an incredible new section to what is already probably my favorite website around at the moment. I hope they develop the idea further - make each flickr map interactive with other users maps(scratch that - they have done - it's incredible!) and make it so that it dosen't change it's mind where you have been depending on what scale you are looking at it on..
Flickr: Explore my geotagged photos on a Map

Quote from the flickr blog - "When we were doing our projections for how many photos Flickr members would geotag, we though that we'd hit a million in the first month, maybe even as fast as two weeks. Instead, 24 hours in, there were 1,234,384 geotagged photos (and now more than 1.6 million geotagged photos as I write this, about 9 hours later). Crazy!"

After the morning at the locks on Sunday morning, I popped home and geared up for the gig at the Slug. Technical hitchery, staggered the start till about 8.30 but when it kicked off it was an instant two thumbs fresh. J.Fredericks on the decks again – what a treat to play alongside his tunes. DJ Dharma came on after that – superb set from him as well. Classic house. Practically the whole place was up and dancing, atmosphere was electric.. Then a fuse went. Scramble, diagnostics, screwdriver, change. How can you have a doo when the music goes off? Back into it for the rest of the night. Then the tills went off. Major problemo on the till system rendered the bar chaos for a while. After the gig, went into the packed but lifeless revolution for a bit. Not long. Ended up at a party at my cousins house till wrong O’Clock in the morning.
Spent Monday recovering, had a game of street cricket with the boys and a neighbours kid which was great fun.
Mucho’s mucho’s fun weekender all in all. I love Bank Holidays.

Went out to collect Eirene's bag that she left at that thing we went to last night in Barnoldswick. Grabbed some fry up fodder and found a picnic site next to these locks. Did a great fry up out the back of our van. Wandered down to the locks. Fascinating how they work - never had a chance to study one in action before. Also made a bit of a montage thingy of the scene.
Tonight I'm gigging at the Slug and Lettuce. Really looking forward to this. Those who were fond of The Late Lounge at Bar Med may recall Jonnie Fredericks, myself on congas and a brass section doing a thing called The JFK Experience. That's what we're on with tonight. Jonnie is reportedly very excited and looking forward to playing this evening. So am I. Non confirmed guest act of a stunning magnitude of greatness should also be turning up.

What a fantastic culinary experience we had last night. Our mate who’s a chef has just come back from France. As well as bringing back shed loads of quality food and drink, he brought our dinner. First course consisted of baked globe artichoke heads. Fantastic taste. Baked for about 40 mins, tear off the petals and eat the delicate, delicious flesh at the base of each petal. Work towards the heart then eat that. Dip dip dip in the old garlic butter. Fantastic. Next up were frogs legs. A classic French food that tastes part fish, part chicken. Again with loads of garlic butter (I must stink today) and sloshing or wine. In between courses we were nibbling on all the other stuff with bread. Mainly the pate which was out of this world. Still stuffed now!

So glad we were'nt going further yesterday. It was crazy in the Airport. Still, got to hang out with my lovely cousin and family. Chilled crossing - had a cabin which was a good move. Arrived in Dublin 22 hours after setting off from Harrogate. A full day of R&R has just about sorted us out.

Today we awoke with a sense of excitement. We were booked on the 10.50 Ryanair flight to Dublin. 10 mins later after a phone call from my Dad we switched on the news to hear the chaos that was happening in airports over the country as security measures were raised to critical (the highest). 21 people had been arrested on suspected terrorist charges for planning to blow up a number of American bound flights from Heathrow. Passengers were instructed that there was to be no hand baggage other then wallet, prescription drugs and baby essentials to be carried on board in a clear plastic bag. As we were flying from Leeds Bradford which is relatively far from the London airports we thought we would be ok. Apart from having to remove shoes for security checks and the airport being slightly busier then normal all seemed to be going according to plan. Then all of a sudden it was announced that our flight was cancelled as were all the Ryanair flights across the country. Luckily we had the car so after a bit of thinking and a lot of ringing around we procured one of the last three tickets for the Holyhead Dublin ferry departing at 02.30 tomorrow morning. We were fortunate to have that option and now I am sat at Matt's cousins while the kids play outside on the trampoline content in the knowledge we are still going on holiday. Many people have had their holidays ruined. A time out that they have looked forward to ages only to be ruined because some people cant understand that not everyone has to be the same and think the same to be happy and create a positive wonderful and unified world. Ciao

This was me by the boundary at Headingley Cricket Ground to watch England v Pakistan. Superb day. Top spot in the East stand, access to a v/nice bar at the top. Good company. Streakers, Mexican waves, Sunday lunch, reasonably priced beer (at an international sporting event !) and spot on weather. The cricket, although didn't quite go the way we would have wanted it was very entertaining. Really glad I got to see some of the greatest crickers around today in action like Monty Panesar - what a star.
Went to Jam night at the Iron Duke after that with a few of the cricket aftermath. Well done Alex for inventing a song about Monty on the spot.
Feel rough today mind. Think I'm ill with more than heavy drinking effect. Hence the reason I'm still in bed. Feel better than I did this morning though.

Hello. I thought I would take a moment to say what a beautiful day we all had yesterday at the wedding of Chrissie and Steve. The bride looked absolutely gorgeous in a full length cream gown and green wrap. During the ceremony they were so sweet and loved up it was truly beautiful to see. Matt did very well getting to the church on time as since I was bridesmaid he was in control of the kids. I shall always remember as we walked down the aisle seeing Matt keeping order with the boys and their toys spread out all over the pew, him holding Sophie and her bottle whilst taking photos and maintaining an aura of calm. Let it never be said men can’t multi task. After a traditional service and photos on the stray we headed down to the Crown hotel where reception was held in the newly redecorated ball. The only problem was that it was non smoking so for a lot of the evening half the guests spent their time on the fire escape instead of being inside dancing. A sign of things to come I suppose with the new smoking laws looming in on us. Today was spent chilling while matt headed to Headingly to watch the cricket. Wishing a happy Monday to all. Ciao.

I’m turning into a right creature of habit. For the last 4 Thursday in a row (I think) I’ve been out playing disc golf. Played 18 holes last night, got round in 73. Looking forward to this weekend. Off to a wedding tomorrow then off to Headingly to watch England v Pakistan test cricket on Sunday.

A while ago I commented on the huge yellow pipe that was carving it's way across the dales / Lancashire / Yorkshire. It's still there, behaving in a very odd way. Mark Simpson, the BBC's North of England correspondent has written an article on said pipes. He's answered all my questions.. read it here : http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5236754.stm
