Deepest darkest Peru

Ali and Marcus have got to Peru! They sound like they are having a superb adventure (apart from getting caught up in a riot and getting pepper sprayed).

Here we see Ali sporting a fantastic DragonDrop Adventure T-Shirt at what has got to be one of the most famous views in the world.. looking down onto Machu Picchu.

Glade photos

Plump DJs, originally uploaded by DragonDrop.

Chucked up a bunch of photos to flickr from my visit to Glade Festival at the weekend. Here’s a stage view shot of (what I considered to be) the best set of the weekend – Plump DJ’s.

Glade Festival 2009 – write up

Got back from Glade festival yesterday afternoon. Superb weekend. I’ve never seen a venue so geographically perfect for a festival as that place. A natural huge amphitheatre who’s crucible was filled with about 10 PA tents, out-door rigs, one main stage and about 100 or so side shows, bars, food joints, shops 10,000 ravers and assorted curiosities.

The quality of the music was top class, thanks to the nature of the stuff that was getting played, and the mindblowingly stunning quality of the PA systems employed. Visually the place was décor’d up to the max and the people, (Oh the people!) were the stars of the show.

Having backstage access was great. Not only can you get some incredible angles on things for taking photos but you get to see more of how the music is made, the people that make it and the crowd that love it. The back stage bar was perhaps the nicest hang out in the whole site. Loads of impromptu sets from DJ’s that we’re playing main stages, loads of professional party people partying.
Got a bunch of photos that I need to crunch. WATCH THIS SPACE!

J’s Bday

Jay’s Birthday BMX, originally uploaded by DragonDrop.

It’s Jaygo’s 8th birthday today. A massive milestone as far as I’m concerned because we deemed that the appropriate age in our house that one is allowed to make cups of tea (heavy schedule of training to follow).

He was pleased at punch with the object (partially) under wraps here – a BMX with trick nuts and slime in the tyres.

Ashes

A big thanks to Ed for sending over the fantastic guide to the Ashes suppliment. As you can imagine, I’m really looking forward to tomorrow (and the following couple of months of said game). Just got myself psyched up for the first day of perhaps the most iconic of contests by watching this fantastic round up by the Test Match Special crew : http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/archive/8137396.stm

Hoggarths

A back to nature weekend for us. I was initially a bit worried about the weather – it was forecast to rain pretty much all weekend but by the time we got the our campsite – it was Sunny and pretty much (bar 1 shower per day) stayed like that.
Hoggarths campsite just west of Keld in the upper corner of Yorkshire is the kind of place we’ve been looking for for years – a really natural chilled out, laid back spot that lets you have fires next to a river. In fact it’s next to my favourite river – the Swale, just where it first gets called “The River Swale”.
A bunch of lovely people made up our camp family, lovely scenery and enough of everything we needed. Friday night involved sitting round the campfire with happy heads on drinking beer n rum. Saturday sunrise I got to hang out with Jaygo for a bit, as the day woke up we dug out the cricket set and had played for most of the afternoon.
J & H turned up late afternoon which was great – we’ve not seen much of them since they left Harrogate – all the kids (6 in total) got on so well. They were so looking forward to seeing each other.
They al loved playing in the river which felt quite safe even for the little ones. Had a lovely fire that evening and the Sunday involved lots of fly fishing on the Swale. Met the owners of Hoggarths briefly after someone phoned through a message that a set of on site truck keys had been accidentally taken back to Harrogate! Lovely couple, lovely spot, very reasonably priced, hope to go back there at some point.
