A couple of postcards in from Richard – who we’ve been following on his adventure to climb the highest mountain on earth*. First – one that arrived this morning – and the second down, one from a couple days ago..
Only a Whymper
Hi everyone, this is me, [in a] Dragondrop [adventure shirt] and various elements outside the Whymper Refuge on the slopes of Volcan Chimborazo, Ecuador. Just about warm enough for a pic! This refuge is at a height of 5000 metres and is where you sleep before attempting the summit – which at 6310 metres is still the best part of a mile straight up. Coca tea for me I think! Cheers, Richard
‘Here’s one of me, [in a] DragonDrop [adventure shirt] and Chimborazo during one of my acclimatization walks for the big climb this weekend. I’ll certainly be getting a pic from the upper refuge hut (5000metres) and weather depending from the top at some point on sunday morning – fingers crossed! Have just been out to purchase wine and beer, can’t buy them on a sunday in Ecuador, whether I’ll be celebrating or drowning my sorrows remains to be seen.’
