Its the weekend (hoopla!). Friday night and I’ve just accomplished the fixing of a camera. Inspired by my post ‘shoots some film’ from a few days ago, I dug out two 35mm cameras. The Smena 8M on closer inspection was broken. I think I’ve managed to fix it by taking it apart, working out how it’s simple but utterly logical and functional mechanics worked and putting the bits that had slipped away from each other back together again. Quite pleased with my work? I should co-co. lets hope it works.
Both cameras are members of the lomo family. If you don’t know what lomo is, I implore you to google it for a bit and explore a fantastic world of creativity, beauty, ingenuity and fun. The Smena is the elder soviet statesman. One of the original old guard (although Smena, roughly translates to ,Young Generation’). The fish eye is a new kid on the block, with its 170 degrees all seeing eye. It’s a big ask, but I’m rather hoping for a splash of sun this weekend so I can go crazy ape bonkers with my funny little cameras.
Other things I am hoping to do in abundance this weekend is read. I’ve got so many books on the go at the moment and several lined up ready to go. As well as my current Audible book for my drive to and from work (Ben Eltons ‘Two Brothers’ which is excellent so far) I’ve got the following on the go..
Minnow on The Say (which I’m reading to Sophie.. Nice gentle book so far)
The Golden Acorn (started last summer, I’ve been reading out loud when we are away or on holidays – the family book on the go)
Grimm’s Fairy Tales (another I’m reading to Sophie.. Nearly finished)
The Coral Island (reading with Jay)
30 Second Psychology (nearly finished.. Fascinating)
The Unnamed by Joshua Ferris (Really interesting book about what’s either a mental illness or something else. I think.)
I’ve got a book on northern cricket, that I got for Christmas and a rather well regarded design theory book called Designing for Emotion by Aarron Walter lined up as well..
Suppose I’d better crack on!
