Turns out, the specialist Russian camera repair guy who’s just fixed and serviced my LOMO LC-A is a bit of an underground internet legend. Roger Lean is almost an anagram of Legend. Almost. It seems that anyone who’s anyone in the LOMO world recommends him and there’s pages and pages of praise for him on flickr – a site he’s apparently not heard of incidentally.
You don’t have to know a lot about cameras to see that he’s done an awful lot of work here – for the modest fee of just £35. He stripped my camera down, replaced parts, adjusted things, greased thing, soldered things, even drilled things. All turned round super quick – I only posted it to him on Friday lunchtime and it arrived back today.
When I spoke to him on the phone, he told me he’s interested in all Russian cameras including Zorki. A word I adore. Zorki. Zorki zorki zorki. He picked up a nickname of ‘The Hero’ on Flickr, and with a service like the one I recieved, I can see why. What a dude.
