My hand didn’t hurt that much today thankfully. It’s bandaged up tight – I’ve got fingertips and a bit of thumb poking out. It’s my left hand by the way, which makes life especially tricky, being left handed. Eirene thinks it was the worlds way of telling me that I should slow down a bit and chill.
Naa.
I went for an explore for a couple of hours this afternoon round the local town – Vic Sur Aisne and area. Guess it got hit by a battle in WWII as I spotted a couple of buildings with characteristic machine gun strafe scarring. A poignant reminder of a dark period of near history. Bringing me back up to the hear and now was a tack-o-rama fun fair in the town centre. I’d have loved to see the town without that – personal preference and all that, but Euro trash music with a French man in a booth near the carousel hire at the back of a waltzers shouting the Franco counterpart of ‘scream if you wanna go faster’ into a heavily reverberating microphone at a bunch of screaming, over sugared kids wasn’t the taste of france for me.
This evening had two distinct parts – the first was beautiful. A dead calm had ascended into our world. Weather, people, water. A flock of fishermen in front of our lodge – serious dudes with all the gear tended their lines, tweaked their set up after a day of fine tuning. The light was that golden light that you only get for a few minutes a day and it was glorious. I leaned and watched and learned. In the zone with the fishermen, watching the fish start to jump and feed. Nice. The second part, which transitioned over the period of only a few minutes saw us downstairs in the main bar area of the resort after a steady petition from the kids to go and see the magic show. Dark, tacky, creepy. Predictable, MFIs answer to magic show props and a couple of tired looking performers who were doing every movement by rote. The terrible PA system was setting off my tinnitus and scaring the baby so we sat outside instead. Even the kids gave up after 10 minutes or so. I suppose it wasn’t my cup of tea and each to their own. Some people seemed to be enjoying it. I know which 10 minutes I preferred.
Right. I’m off to calculate and set up a timelapse. toodles.
how old are you sounding??! haha!! we are officially past it.
Ha! Absolutely!
