I received a belated birthday present this morning. A National Semiconductors’ Digital NOVUS LED Watch. I absolutely love it to bits. When these came out – 40 years ago, when I was born (the model I’ve been bought is a ’73 – just like me) they would have been an incredible technology to behold – these were the very first digital watches. They would have cost a fortune, and been the talk of the town, back in the day.
The word ‘digital’ itself, would have been quite a novelty. Now, it has become such a part of our every day life. Digital cameras, digital design, digital downloads – even Digital Agencies (the agency I work for is a Digital Agency.).
Demographers define the post WWII baby boomers as Generation X. More recently there’s the Generation Y and even more recently, a Generation Z. It’s commonly agreed to the generation Y’ers were born somewhere between the 1980s and the early 2000s. I’ve always felt a bit left out, until now that is. I’ve just worked out that I’m Generation D. People born in the 70s have grown up with the digital. Digital has grown up, with us. We are the first digital generation.
Fellow Generation D’s.. unite! Stand tall and be proud of your digital roots.
