Today, after the final full day training session, I concluded my “SIT1” training and was told I’d passed. I am now a qualified Samaritan. I’ve got an official number (with a P for Probation after it for the time being) and a key to the door. I’ll be on probation for a while and there are a few more sessions in 2014 but as of now, I can start the next phase – being mentored, where I will observe more experienced Sams in action and eventually get the chance to take a call.
I’m feeling a bit apprehensive about this, yet really looking forward to helping people and making a difference to people’s lives. An interesting closing comment from the training (no doubt, in part to boost our confidence) was that we – the newly qualified Sams were the best Samaritans there are, because the training is the freshest with us.
I do feel ready though. The training has been brilliant.
I’ve blogged my progress with the Samaritans tag on this blog by the way, if you’re interested.
