Today the children and I watched Hotel Transylvania. The story revolves around Count Dracula and his daughter Mavis who is about to come of age at 118. Count Dracula has a fear of humans and has built the Hotel Transylvania in the middle of nowhere to ensure his beloved daughter never has to encounter any humans and no humans can ever reach the hotel. This works perfectly until one evening a certain back packer arrives on the scene and threatens the safety of the monsters staying at the hotel and the heart of Dracula’s daughter.
This is thought provoking film where the baddies are the goodies and who knows if the real baddies are baddies after all. The characters are lovable and full of great one liners, both for the children in the audience and some for the adults watching with them. My children laughed out loud plenty of times and it made me laugh too. As I was chasing Annie around the room I did miss some of the funny bits so I would say the humour is fast and you do need to pay attention to get all the funnies. It’s impossible to not compare Hotel Transylvania with Despicable Me when both lead men have such fantastic accents. Personally I prefer Despicable Me but Hotel Transylvania is definitely worth watching too.
