A slight panic is setting in to people in Harrogate today as the reality of Le Tour with all it’s road closures, no parking signs, no camping signs, Harris fencing, porta loos and 3 million visitors kicks in. Parents have been notified by schools that should accessibility be a problem, children may be collect early on Friday. Some schools and shops have simply shut to avoid the expected chaos. Jersey bunting adorns every available railing and there must be nearly enough garishly yellow painted bikes for each of the visitors to ride home on. Goodness knows what will become of these bikes once Le Tour has departed I hope they will be donated to a good cause and not to the local tip. Christ Church has been fundraising to send bikes to Tanzania, wouldn’t it be great if we could send them all our yellow bicycles. Give them a new lease of life in the African sunshine.
