Every year our school hosts a disco and silent auction. Parents and friends of the school donate prizes which people bid for by writing the amount they would like to pay on a list underneath the prize. The winner is the last amount recorded when the time runs out. This year I won two tickets to the Harrogate fringe festival, a months military keep fit ( I haven’t been brave enough to take that one up) and two hours labour from a Stone mason. It just so happens that the stone mason in question is the very talented Johnny Clasper. Initially I had in mind a stone circle in the middle of the lawn in the back garden for the table and chairs to go on, preventing them from sinking into the turf. This problem solved itself when I laid astro turf instead of real turf. So then I was left with two hours of skill going to waste. I hate to see waste. Then I remembered our Belfast sink’s surround desperately needed redoing as it was mouldy, broken and mildewy. Would it be beneath him to do such a job, I wondered ? Tonight Johnny paid us a visit and said he’ll see what he can do. So watch this space. Who knows what the final look will be but I think we are in safe hands.
