A lot of our holiday centred around food. Breakfast started at 7 until 11, then there were snacks at the bars dotted around the resort. Lunch ran from 12 till 3 then icecream and sandwiches were available from the bars until dinner which was served from 630 until 1030. From 11 and through out the night snacks could be found at the all-night bar. Although we didn’t indulge in all these opportunities to eat, we certainly never got the chance build up an appetite and suffer hunger pangs.
There were three main venues for dinner, the restaurant which ran a themed menu each night ranging from seafood to bbq to all around the world. The Mexican restaurant and the Italian restaurant for which we were given free passes (one a week). The food in general was well presented and of great quality but sometimes a little obscure. There were sherry glasses filled with vibrantly coloured liquids which we were unsure whether to dip or drink from. Beef bacon was another novelty. When it came to bread and pastries the hotel excelled itself. Mountains of glazed, exotically shaped and mysteriously coloured baked goods coated in seeds thronged the island as you walked in. So much food must have gone to waste but the chefs did their bit to try and cut down on this by utilising previous dishes in the next sitting. Cereals made appearances as desert toppings and bread was fried and made into croutons to accompany the soup. Vegetables and pasta were also recycled as soup toppings which suited Annie as soup with lots of veg and bread dip dip ducks is one of her favourites. My favourite theme was the seafood night. The bisque was fabulous and the sight of the massive tunas hung behind the chefs awaiting their culinary creativity was a sight to see.
The Italian restaurant wasn’t brilliant but the Mexican was fine so long as you stuck to the recommended fajitas and deep fried icecream. In fact every time the waiter saw us he made sure to let us know ‘the fried icecream is the best’. So much was his insistence that Felix and Jay decided to have the creme caramel. However when all the deserts arrived it was indeed confirmed the the fried icecream was definitely the best.
