It’s my first trip to San Francisco, but I’m not the first adventure club member to visit. Fionn was here 13 years ago (as you can see near the bottom of this DDAC archive). I re created his shirt shot by standing at the bottom of Lombard Street – the 27% gradient street somehow personifies a lot of what San Francisco is all about – hilly and quirky.
I’ve had a spectacular few days. I’m over here with work but I tagged on a couple of days holiday to explore and hang out with DragonDrop Adventure Clubbers Ben & Claire.
As well as being excellent hosts, they’ve been top ambassadors to the city. They moved out here a year and a half ago and it’s fair to say the love this city. They’ve shown me some of off the beaten tracks, down with the locals view and things to do in this city. We’ve watched basketball* in dive bars, wandered some of the fascinating suburbs, eaten fresh bay oysters, and have drank, eaten, watched and experienced so much in the 2 days and 3 nights I hung out with them.
Yesterday I went solo. I started the day following an urban hike up to the highest point in the city – Twin Peaks. From here there’s unrivalled views across the pacific, over the city and bay area, the Golden Gate bridge.
I went from there into the southern chunk of the city and had a picnic before collecting my stuff from beautiful abode of Ben and Claire and headed to my hotel where I’m spending the rest of the week.
It’s been incredible weather here. It’s 24degC here today – and I understand it’s not so warm back home, so I’m going to make the most of it and get out there.
*Steph Curry is good at basketball.
