That’s the theory anyway, pending my visa application processing going to plan. I’ve had a while to get used to it now but I forget that the rest of the world isn’t used to the idea yet and I’m bumping into people who are very much phased out but the news. It’s a huge move. I’m mostly excited, slightly – well – scared and melancholy to tell the truth. Am I doing to right thing? I sincerely hope so. A big risk – given that I’ve never been to Dubai before. The positives though – a very cool sounding work opportunity – doing UX design for a huge and growing commerce operation. A country that’s got wall to wall beautiful weather most of the year (apart from the too hot summer months). The most cosmopolitan city in the world, a real melting pot of culture. The opportunity to send my kids to a world class school. The chance to do some brand new adventuring. The chance to learn.
The main bits I’m going to miss are Felix and Elsie. They, along with Felix’s girlfriend are looking after the house in Harrogate. The house that shares the same name as this website – DragonDrop. I’ll miss that and the town of Harrogate it lives in. I might bring Elsie out there eventually – I want to check it out first though. There’s no point bringing el doggo out to someplace that she’s not going to like. Tough call.
I’m just winding up my final week @WalmartLabs / Asda / George. I’ll miss that as well. Intense as it’s ever been. Last week we did a Design SPRINT 100% by the book, which was awesome. This week, I’ve been doing everything from interviews to planning Pattern Libraries.
I’ll also miss Eirene, Jaygo, Sophie and Annie mo for a month or so – but – fingers crossed, we’re aiming to get their side of things sorted by just after Christmas. Hopefully, I’ll fly home for Christmas then take them all back with me.
