The following are a few words that I started to pen whilst on a flight back to the UK for Christmas. I didn’t get round to finishing it and since, I’ve since flown back to Dubai and have done a whole bunch of stuff. I’ll write more about that, but for now…
I’m currently sat on an A380 flying back to the UK with Emirates. First time I’ve flown Emirates. First impressions, the headphones are rubbish (and I forgot my headphones) about to have a drink. Landing in Manchester in around 6 or 7 hours from now. Listening to The Doors.
There. Scene set.
It’s been great in Dubai. About 5 weeks ago I landed not knowing very much at all about the city. Since then, I’ve started a job, found a house, secured a school, bought 5 beds, 2 sofas, made some friends, been eating out, eating in, exploring, and driving. Lots of driving.
I think when I set out a month ago, this first stint had a built in back out plan. I didn’t think I’d need it, but it was always there – a bail out option at Christmas. Well – I’m coming home now with every intention of flying back in 8 days. Saddened that the rest of my fam can’t fly back with me (glitches with the visas – long and quite dull story). They’ll follow me out soon after though, Inshallah.
Dubai is nice. The weather is superb – 25-28 deg c every day this time of year. It sounds brutal in summer though, but there we go. Our villa is nice. It’s 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and a big garden (well.. sand pit.) It’s brand new – we’re the first occupants. The compound it’s on is lovely. On site, there’s a pool, a gym, basketball courts, playgrounds, a little cafe and it’s all set in a quiet little gated community. S’nice.
