It’s still red hot and humid here in Dubai. Spending a lot of time indoors or by the pool. Swimming every morning is a nice perk of being here though. Being out here in the sandpit though – I will admit, is like living in a bubble. I’m watching the proceedings (or lack of them) from the UK with at times, grave interest.
The UK seems to be in a near total mess at the moment. What really gets me is all that time, money and energy that’s gone into Brexit. From what I can gather from here, the country is either barely ticking over, stagnating or going backwards. Health, Infrastructure, Education, The Environment – it’s all coming apart at the seams.
Operation Yellowhammer is a terrifying prospect. I’ve still got kids and relatives in the UK and so this is so very distressing to read.
I know there’s probably (gut feel, not statistically calculated) no turning back now but I can’t help but think that how much better the UK would be right now and for the foreseeable future, if Remain had won the vote back in 2016.
Who knows how it’s going to play out though. It seems to be changing every few days. Unprecedented times. From the outside looking in, the reaction to the ‘goings on’ go between laughing stock material to incredulous disbelief through to totally gob smacked. “You couldn’t make this up” is a phrase I’ve heard a few times in relation to Brit news recently.
The demise has been slow so far – Observable with services being shut down slowly or throttled. I’m worried about the next phase of bad – uncontrolled riots, empty ATM’s, epidemics, food and power shortages… Yes yes, I do read far too much dystopian fiction, but what’s going on at the moment in the UK does seem like the prologue.
I live in hope though that non of this will happen. Surely that should be the primary focus. Poor old Britannia. God bless her.
