(A) A Watchcam is a wristwatch with a camera on it.

The History -
In September 2001, Casio unveiled the 'WQV-1' to the UK marketplace - the world's first commercial digital wrist camera. About a year later, they brought out the WQV-3. This was ther next leap in technology - the first colour watch cam which. This took colour photo's but still retained it's monochrome screen. The latest model, the WQV-10 has a colour screen and takes colour photo's. In the humble opinion of DragonDrop.org, it's the dogs.

Wrist watches stated out just telling the time. Then, one bright spark thought it would be a great idea to include a date window. Then along came the date / day, then the divers oxygen timer. By the late 70's digital watch technology opened the door to 'multi view' screen technology. One of first non chronology related developments was the calculator watch.

The Culture - The black and white camera was the birthing pool of wrist cam culture. Communities like Camborg started keeping an eye on it all. Hundreds of cam sites came online, all showing their own unique perception of wrist eye view. wristwatchphotos.com , wristpiks.com , observations and (of course!) www.DragonDrop.org are examples of true dedication to the culture. Parallels can be drawn from other 'small camera culture' such as the workings of LOMO Camera fans. The content generated by this media has matured into photo based art-form. Worth a visit - Lomo.com . A similar mindset if noting else : "Don't think just shoot".

The Future - Mobile telephony and camera technology have already met. Phones like the t68i and the 7650 allow you to take a photo and email / MMS your photograph to another phone or computer. Telephone wristwatches exist and wrist watches are increasingly trying to jam in as much technology as possible. In recent years, watch body's have see dozens of integration and applications. Technologies such as PDA's, GPS, and digital cameras are now all available in a watch shaped object. It seems logical from this to presume that one day, there will be a 'super watch' that merges all of these. The future - taking a photo on a wrist cam, and sending it straight to net.
